Treat Your Cocktails to a Mushroom Tincture Twist

Here at Bridgetown Mushrooms we spend our days elbows-deep in mushrooms. We work hard, and we love it when our customer-family grows as a result. At the same time, all of that effort leaves us parched at the end of a work day. So we thought - can we take our tasty tinctures and make something more…potent out of them?

Mushrooms have been used for centuries in traditional medicine for their various health benefits, but they also make a unique addition to cocktails, we’ve discovered. Reishi, lion's mane, and cordyceps mushroom tinctures are all known for their medicinal properties and can add a rich, earthy flavor to cocktails. 

Here are five different cocktails and a mocktail - taste-tested by yours truly - you can make using any of these mushroom tinctures as ingredients.

Mushroom Margarita

  • Ingredients:
  • Directions:
    • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
    • Shake vigorously until well combined.
    • Strain into a salt-rimmed glass filled with ice.
    • Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!

Mushroom Mule

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 1/2 oz vodka
    • 1/2 oz lime juice
    • 3 oz ginger beer
    • 1 dropperful of cordyceps mushroom tincture
    • lime wedge
  • Directions:
    • Fill a copper mug with ice.
    • Add vodka and lime juice to the mug and stir.
    • Pour in ginger beer and stir again.
    • Add a dropperful of cordyceps mushroom tincture and stir gently.
    • Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!

Mushroom Old Fashioned

  • Ingredients:
  • Directions:
    • In a rocks glass, stir together bourbon, simple syrup, and bitters.
    • Add ice to the glass and stir again.
    • Add a dropperful of reishi mushroom tincture and stir gently.
    • Garnish with an orange twist and enjoy!

Mushroom Martini

  • Ingredients:
  • Directions:
    • In a mixing glass filled with ice, stir together gin or vodka and dry vermouth.
    • Strain into a chilled martini glass.
    • Add a dropperful of lion's mane mushroom tincture and stir gently.
    • Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy!

Mushroom Sangria

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 bottle of red wine
    • 1/2 cup orange juice
    • 1/2 cup brandy
    • 1/4 cup triple sec
    • 1/4 cup agave nectar
    • 2-3 droppersful of cordyceps mushroom tincture
    • sliced oranges, apples, and berries for garnish
  • Directions:
    • In a large pitcher, stir together red wine, orange juice, brandy, triple sec, and agave nectar.
    • Add a dropperful of cordyceps mushroom tincture and stir gently.
    • Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
    • Serve over ice and garnish with sliced fruit.

Forest Fizz

  • Ingredients
    • 1 oz fresh lime juice
    • 1 oz simple syrup (1 part sugar, 1 part water)
    • 1 dropperful mushroom tincture
    • 8 oz club soda
    • Ice
    • Sprig of rosemary for garnish
  • Directions:
    • In a shaker, combine the lime juice, simple syrup, and mushroom tincture.
    • Add ice to the shaker and shake well.
    • Strain into a glass filled with ice.
    • Top with club soda and stir.
    • Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.
